Zero Waste Zero Carbon Programme
About the programme
The Zero Waste Zero Carbon Program sets up Resource Recovery Stations with food caddies to encourage school food scrap collection for composting. It links the positive climate actions associated with diverting food scraps from landfill and benefits of building topsoil through school gardening.
The Zero Waste Zero Carbon Program was developed over a 6 year period in conjunction with Kel Hartell of Northcross Intermediate, Auckland Council's Sustainable Schools Team, and professional curriculum developers Monique Russell and Shanthie Walker with support from Foundation North, Hibiscus Bays Local Board, Auckland Councils Waste Solutions and Climate Action teams.
As proof of its success, it has now been adopted by Auckland Council's Sustainable Schools Team and is being applied in 14 schools across three North Shore Local Boards.

Tollesbury Enterprises Silverdale has kindly helped the Zero Waste Zero Carbon Programme in Schools (ZWZC) and City to Far with supplying the Food Scrap Caddies needed for Whangaparaoa College, Orewa College, Waitoki, and Wainui Schools.
These Maze 7L caddies will go into all year 7 classrooms and some will be used for Zing containers. The ZWZC Programme is about diverting food scraps away from landfill and towards food producing land instead, all the food scraps are collected by City to Farm
